Baylis (Gloucester) Ltd was founded in 1994. The current Baylis Group came into being in 2000 following the purchase of the three Haines & Strange Vauxhall outlets in Cheltenham, Cirencester and Stroud. This increased the network of branches to six, following the earlier acquisition of the former Greig's garages in Hereford and Ross on Wye.
A programme of modernisation and improvement in recent years has seen the complete refurbishment of branches in Stroud, Cirencester, Ross and Gloucester. Brand-new purpose built facilities were constructed in Hereford early in 2005 and at Cheltenham in 2008. This demonstrates a commitment to customer care by providing modern showrooms and service reception areas, and a major investment in new technology behind the scenes.
The summer of 2009 saw the acquisition of the Vauxhall franchise for Worcester, adding to the synergy of Baylis' operations in the Three Counties, complementing the other branches and extending the scope of the Vauxhall brand to both trade and retail customers.
Despite being one of the largest motor groups in the west of England, the company is still run by a local management team with Michael Baylis at the helm. .
